Review of the new Shimano XTR group in 2014, the main difference from the old version

At first glance, the new group does not carry a huge change from the previous rule. But one noticeable precisely, Shimano XTR is increasingly becoming the lot of cross-country destinations. 

 

Here's the thing: XTR many times was modified over time since it was released 22 years ago. Every four years or so, Shimano usually represents a new generation XTR, which rotates in the direction of the spectrum or cross-country, or a reinforced components for trail and mountain slopes. The last time a new reincarnation Shimano XTR (2011), the company took a different path: issued a core group of components consisting of a light cross-country parts, and more durable components for the trail. You, as a cyclist can choose the most appropriate style of riding kit XTR. 

 

Well, in the new group in 2014, Shimano deviating from once to four years of graphic redesign, is even more ultra-light, for XC skiing, components XTR. Namely, Shimano added a lightweight hydraulic disc brakes and powertrain components, as well as ultra-light carbon fiber 29 inch wheels.

New M987 brake 40 grams lighter than the old version of the XTR M985. The weight savings come at the expense of magnesium master cylinder and calipers, brake levers carbon fiber and titanium fasteners. Excessive heat is the main ugrzoy braking performance and is a particular problem when working with components of magnesia. For this purpose Caliper BR-M987 is compatible with the new technology ribbed disc brake pads. New rotor SMRT99 available 180/160/140 mm size and uses a lightweight aluminum spider with fins for even more reduction of excess heat.

Easy slide / Sturdy chain 

New Slider SM-BB93 / SM-BB94 mountain bike from Shimano 19 grams lighter than the previous XTR bottom bracket and is available in all versions of the mold and carving. The new XTR chain (CN-M981 HG-X) received a new, low-friction surface formed on proprietary technology (Sil-Tec), which, according to Shimano, increases the performance and durability of a bicycle chain.

29 inch carbon wheelset 

It was only a matter of time before finally Shimano introduce carbon 29 "wheels in their mountain line. The big surprise is that they are not yet available in klinchernoy version, and the choice will be limited release wheels for tubes. Strange step of the company, as the tube version of the wheels, even cross-country racers, are increasingly losing its popularity. 

 

The focus of the new carbon wheels XTR WH-M980 29-inch lightweight carbon rim weighing just 280 grams. Wheelsets weigh 1349 g (for 15mm front / rear 12-mm wheel axle version) and 1298 grams (for a 15-mm front / rear axle quick-iteration).
